Our U.S. operations encompass 28 geologic provinces in 19 states and the Gulf of Mexico.
A large proportion of our development drilling is in regional and semi-regional
tight and unconventional gas accumulations where the critical risk is
optimized drilling and completion practices. We believe Samson has competitive
advantages in this area that can lead to profitable drilling opportunities.
These accumulations are important because they have greater predictability
and long-lived value.
In addition to our extensive U.S. drilling program, we continue to
add to our domestic reserve base by purchasing additional properties,
either as individual asset packages or on a whole company basis. Once
the acquisitions are closed, we work diligently to:
- Maximize production
- Reduce costs
- Develop the properties' reserve potential
One
recent acquisition highlights our ability to maximize
on opportunities. In
a cash transaction, we acquired a company and quickly
executed on an aggressive program of production
improvements and development and exploratory drilling - onshore and
offshore Gulf of Mexico. In
this process, we have well exceeded our financial
and production goals and generated several additional drilling opportunities.
Our
staff closely monitors production from more than 4,000 operated wells
to ensure these assets are maximized at the lowest possible cost. Using
an integrated field management approach, Samson successfully generates
ideas for production enhancement and cost reductions, which flow to
and from the field through the engineering staff.
Since
commencing operations in 1989 with a focus on the Western Canadian Basin, Samson Canada grew its oil and gas production through exploration, development drilling and
acquisitions.
In November 2005, Samson Canada announced plans to consider strategic alternatives for its holdings. This culminated with a disposition of the majority of Samson Canada's holdings in August 2006.
Samson Canada, headquartered in Calgary, will continue to explore and develop its holdings in Central Alberta. At an appropriate time in the future, the Company will consider a possible disposition of these properties.
